I have never heard of Attachment Styles before and your teaching last night was priceless to me. For over 70 years my life has felt like a jigsaw puzzle, with the pieces scattered all over the floor, with no box or lid or a picture of the finished jigsaw! I have spent decades trying alone to fit the pieces together - but none of them ever fitted... However, after listening to this week's teaching some of the 'pieces' have finally fallen into place and, at last, I have been able to join them together... How I wish I had heard your teaching years ago! But, as you say "It's never too late!" I have learnt so much too from the other ladies in the group - their honesty, transparency, authenticity and vulnerability has been like a breath of fresh air and a privilege to hear. Thank you, Barbara, from the bottom of my heart.
I wanted to share how incredibly helpful this group (and the first group!) has been for me! I have been able to use all your resources to begin to rebuild my sense of self. My people pleasing codependency is in the light now & I am determined to be the woman God created me to be, not what I think others want! If I hadn't found you & this group, I may have had a nervous breakdown not understanding my neurodiverse relationship. I thought I was alone, and finding other women trusting God through similar circumstances, and all of your resources and encouragement - has helped tremendously!
Being part of this group has already caused exponential growth in my faith, my understanding of my identity in Christ, the nature of Christ's love for us and the world, and the work he has called me to in my marriage. I feel a strength and fierceness I have not felt before. I love my husband, I truly have forgiven him for the ways he has sinned and continues to sin against our family. But I have a better understanding what 'loving him well' entails. It is not for the faint of heart, but as the apostle Paul says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phill. 4:13)
I have participated in three groups with Barbara, including the Cassandra Recovery group, and also had one-on-one counsel with her. She has been extremely valuable to me as I learn how to navigate the challenges of a neurodiverse marriage. It's hard to find truly Spirit-filled counselors for Christian wives in these kinds of marriages, and I am grateful to God for Barbara and her expertise in neurodiverse couples counseling, which emphasizes healthy boundaries that bless.
I was just talking to one of my oldest friends with honesty about my divorce and the challenges I faced with my ex. Recounting the painful experiences of his shaming and blaming behavior was exhausting. However, it was also empowering, clearly affirming my need to leave. The work Barbara and I did in my journey with the Cassandra Recovery group helped me confront the false guilt and blame that led to shame; it truly saved me. I began to set healthy boundaries that bless my life and stop taking responsibility for my ex’s choices. This transformative process set me on a trajectory towards freedom, and the insights gained from neurodiverse couples counseling were invaluable. Thank you!!
I believe this Cassandra Recovery group is incredibly beneficial for people who have been married to someone with ASD for a long time, as well as those who have recently entered into a marriage with a neurodiverse partner. Group coaching is also more cost-effective for me than private neurodiverse couples counseling. As someone who is new to understanding adults with autism and its impact on my marriage, I joined the group during a low point in my life. By the end of the experience, I felt empowered and equipped with resources that helped me improve myself and, consequently, my marriage. I gained a clearer understanding of which of my husband’s challenges were related to ASD and which were not. I also learned the importance of establishing boundaries that bless our relationship and began to set better expectations for my marriage. Now, I feel more secure in who I am within our partnership.
